JB Systems - Choosing A Web DesignerThere are several things to consider when choosing a website designer or web development firm. Here are a few things to consider when making this big decision:
Standards Based Make sure the web designer you choose is aware of and abides by the standards set forth by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). This organization sets the standards each year for web design. Could you imagine an electrician not knowing about the IEEE or the ISO? Abiding by these standards will ensure your website will look the same in all browsers (AOL, Internet Explorer, FireFox, Safari, Mozilla) and even look good on other web devices (mobile phones). Ownership Of Files Several web designers will retain ownership of the code, graphics, and nearly everything involved in the website. Make sure you read any and all contracts very closely. If the designer owns all of the files associated with your website, you will not be able to someday leave that designer without having to pay another developer to re-design everything. At JB Systems, all source files (except PHP / Database programming) designed for our clients are owned by our clients. If your business moves or you'd like to try a different web designer, you'll have all the files you'll need to do so. Commitment To Customer Support JB Systems prides in the fact that when you give us a call, Monday through Friday, someone will answer the phone. Make sure your web designer is around to help answer any questions or to solve any technical support related issues. Will your designer be there a year from now to help you out? Is your designer a student who may not be in town or even reachable within a few years? These are important issues to consider when choosing a designer. Pricing Websites can vary greatly in price, depending on the programming, animating, or customizations your site may require. Under no circumstance should a company "lease" a website to you for a period of time and then require you to purchase the site after the leasing period. Avoid website design firms built around this kind of pricing structure. Although the monthly payments seem attractive, you could end up paying tens of thousands for a website. |
